When I make art, my soul sings. Through my work, I share with others the joy I find in the simplicity of a flower, the quiet of a long country road, the nostalgia of an old bicycle left behind, as well as the appreciation I have of people working, or playing, or taking care of everyday tasks. Life is what we do, and that is what I wish to capture and preserve.
Painting in a series is exciting, because it affords me the opportunity to more fully explore a subject. For example, I was struck with the beauty of cacti and succulents while on a golf trip to Arizona one winter. Painting the “Some Like It Hot” series is a result of that awareness.
A more recent exploration is the “WORKERS, PART ONE” series of people going about their lives doing whatever they do on a daily basis. We all have to do something, and no one likes to be idle.
Also, a trip to the coast of Maine triggered the “Rocks and Water” series. The enormity of the rocky coast was a bit overwhelming to me, and to try to capture it was too much for me at the time. Therefore, I concentrated on the minute details of cracks within rocks, and smaller pools of water, as well as more manageable vistas.
The list goes on and on, and I can paint what inspires me until I leave this magnificent world.
