Bio

A composer and multi-instrumentalist from Athens, Georgia, Andrew Steck has played in several bands (Col. Knowledge & The Lickity-Splits, Parasite Shoes, In The Lurch, Los Meesfits, Liberator, Pale Pose) before focusing his efforts on orchestral composition.

The first full-length album, Inner Loop / Outer Loop (2020) draws from a variety of sources from baroque (Cucumber Water) to 20th Century tonality (Disco Ostinato), rhythm & blues to tango (Tango Arcana), various folk music approaches to electronic music production, he carves out his own artistic path to make original, exciting music that inspires movement as well as conjuring mental imagery.

The Covers EP (2021) features orchestral re-imaginings from artists such as Dolly PartonDanzig, and Ween.

Indie Classical (2021) consists of smaller combinations of instruments. Shapes & Shades in Passing is a piece for flute, English horn, and cello that takes the listener on a leisurely ride down country roads showered with autumn leaves. As a tribute to Wendy Carlos, an all synthesizer version of this piece is included. The Amana Quartet is a string quartet that follows the archetypal hero’s journey.

The second full-length, Theater, utilizes aforementioned approaches, while adding more jazz, hip hop, and rock influences. Instrumentally, electric guitars are added here and there along with synthesizer effects and studio sound manipulation. The singles from the album, Plane at an Angle and Big Red Cardinal demonstrate this.
