Jason Matherly is an Athens, GA-based artist who produces shaped paintings with an emphasis on precise color combinations. His objects are comprised of multiple elements, each of which is treated as an individual monochrome painting before being joined together into a vibrant whole. The goal is to create pieces imbued with both the meditative subtleties of minimalism and the dynamic, internal logic of sculpture. Drawing on his years of work in an academic library, Matherly sources inspiration from a broad range of fields and research practices. His works are at once thoughtfully conceived and exuberantly playful.
