"Unafraid to shed her skin through the lyrics she writes for her songs, Alternative/R&B artist, producer, and songwriter Convict Julie has made her mark both in her hometown of Atlanta, GA and her collegetown of Athens, GA. Convict Julie got her stage name from a fish- Awestruck by its complex patterns, despite its small size, Convict saw it as a little fish trying to navigate a big ocean, which can be compared to how she uses her music to make sense of the world around her. Convict got her start in the February 2019 release of her debut single “Devil’s Playground,” with production by Chem Beats. Since then, Convict has released two EP’s and four singles, with her upcoming debut album “Dark Matter” set to release in the beginning of 2021. With live performance scarce amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Convict saw this time as an opportunity to use her platform to her advantage and lead protests against systemic racism in Athens, GA with the resurgence in the Black Lives Matter movement. Convict isn’t afraid to take bold risks, whether she’s on the streets of Athens fighting for racial injustice or in the studio creating music that speaks to her. She won’t hesitate to pair lyrics that are raw with emotion and overlay them with trap-style beats, all while seamlessly blending the two to have an overall sound that seems to mesh sounds from The Weeknd with vocals like that of Adele." -Nina Bayani
