Stanley Bermudez is a visual artist currently living and working in Houston, Texas. Bermudez was born on January 9, 1965 in New Orleans, Louisiana but was raised in Venezuelan. In 1983, Bermudez moved to Houston, Texas to start his college education. In 1990, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and in May of 2000, he received a Master of Fine Arts from Radford University, Virginia. Since 1990, Bermudez has been concentrating mainly on painting. Bermudez works with acrylics on canvas, using a hard edge approach in which he does not blend any colors. One striking characteristic of Bermudez paintings is the use of vibrant colors, which comes from growing up in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Viewers have found Bermudez artwork to be dynamic, vibrant, and funny, surrealistic at times, and with a Pop-Art/Op-Art quality to them at other times, all of which are readings he wants the work to have.

Bermudez most recent series of paintings are explorations of color using a variety of materials and equipment. These are mixed media paintings done on small canvases and plywood using a laser cutter, acrylic paints, masking tape, matte medium, as well as other materials. The paintings are 13 x 13 inches or smaller and are very intimate in nature. These paintings are also explorations in the interaction of color as well as three-dimensionality. While working on this series in China last year, an artist colleague, of Bermudez, Feng Shen, suggested to the artist using traditional Chinese window patterns as well as the circular patterns the artist had been using. The work has been influenced in part by the work of Carlos Cruz Diez and Jesus Soto as well as recent trips to China.
